America’s Floor Source Sets New Standard For Sustainability In Flooring Industry

November 11, 2025 2 min read

COLUMBUS, Ohio. November 5, 2025, 2025 — America’s Floor Source (AFS) is proud to announce its recognition as a recipient of the 2025 Pink Ribbon Partner Award, presented by Mohawk Flooring in partnership with Susan G. Komen®. This prestigious honor celebrates AFS’s outstanding commitment to community impact and sustainability, both in its business practices and its support of breast cancer awareness and research.

The Pink Ribbon Partner Award is given to retail partners who go above and beyond in their support of the Komen partnership. AFS earned this accolade through robust sales of Mohawk’s SmartCushion, with a portion of the proceeds from every product sold helping fund groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy, and support programs in more than 60 countries. These efforts have helped make possible 29 new breast cancer-fighting drugs over the past 30 years.

“We are honored to recognize America’s Floor Source for their unwavering dedication to making a significant difference in their community,” said Joe Semaan, Mohawk’s president of residential carpet. “Their commitment to promoting Komen and actively participating in local fundraising activities not only sets them apart but also inspires others to support this important cause. Their efforts have truly had a lasting impact.”

AFS’s dedication to sustainability goes far beyond charitable giving. Through its involvement with Mohawk’s ReCover program as part of a residential flooring pilot project, AFS has become the first independent flooring retailer to recover more than 1.5 million pounds of carpet since the initiative’s launch in August 2024. This milestone is the equivalent to covering over 315,000 square yards, the weight of 1.7 billion plastic straws, the trash generated by more than 4,300 typical U.S. households in one month, or 3.1 million kWh of energy—enough to power 223 U.S. homes for an entire year. *

At the AFS showroom, a dedicated Mohawk trailer collects used broadloom carpet from installers after new flooring installations. Each week, this material is given a second life as an alternative fuel for cement production, while other components are recycled as an input for injection-molded car parts. Even recovered SmartCushion is sent back to Mohawk’s pad plants to be transformed into new cushion, ensuring less waste in landfills and more innovative solutions for a circular future.

“This is more than recycling,” said Michel Vermette, CEO of America’s Floor Source. “It is about creating a more circular system that benefits our customers, our community, and our planet. We believe sustainability should be built into every part of our business, and we are proud to lead the way in making flooring more environmentally responsible.”

AFS’s sustainability efforts are designed with consumers in mind. By choosing to carry products that support causes like Susan G. Komen and participating in product circularity pilot projects, customers can feel confident about their flooring choices. Whether contributing to life-saving breast cancer research or reducing landfill waste, AFS is committed to building a healthier future, one floor at a time.
